When Should I Start Getting Botox/Dysport/Xeomin?

The short answer: Now. If you’re considering getting neurotoxins (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin), it is probably time to start.

The long answer: As with all things cosmetic, the choice to get B.TOX. injections is a personal choice. It’s a minor treatment and if it can make you feel a little better when you look in the mirror, stare at yourself in Zoom or feel more confident when you’re taking a picture or hanging out with people, then it’s probably worth it.

B.TOX. is a solution of botulinum toxin A that decreases the ability of muscles to contract for temporary periods of time (typically around 3-4 months) thus minimizing the appearance of wrinkles.

Our wrinkles go through different stages.

When we make facial expressions in our teens and early twenties you may not even see wrinkles even appear. In our late 20s and early 30s we start to see a greater number and distinct wrinkles with expressions. We call these dynamic wrinkles. Eventually, these wrinkles turn into resting wrinkles which are visible even when we’re not animating or making any expressions. This is what we want to prevent!

If you start getting B.TOX. regularly early on, before they turn into resting wrinkles, then we can prevent the resting wrinkles from forming. If the resting wrinkles are still shallow these can be pretty much eliminated while the b.tox is working. Once they are deep resting wrinkles the b.tox can soften the lines but not fully erase them.


If you’re thinking about getting B.TOX. it’s probably a good time to start. Starting early can prevent wrinkles from forming. Ultimately, it’s your choice. Do what makes you feel good!
